About Sports Spotlight

Sports Spotlight is a leading source for news, information and resources for high school and youth athletics and all active endeavors. Our team provides up-beat, in-depth coverage of everything sports and the scholar athletes creating the action. Our mission is to recognize the accomplishments of young athletes by spotlighting the sportsmanship, competition and passion these athletes display to reach their goals. The benefits of sports for young people, the long hours spent by coaches and the support of parents for their athletes are all worthy and deserving of praise.

Sport Spotlight's products include a monthly print magazine distributed through Casey's General Stores and Scheels. Our radio programs over the Sports Spotlight Network include the popular Friday Night Live program that also appears on WHO-TV Channel 13.2 and Mediacom channels 113 and 246 highlighting all the high school football scores and plays you'd ever want to know. Our Web site features fresh and relevant content together with a digital magazine and our email newsletter delivers all the sports news straight to your inbox.

We are rare because we appeal to such a broad base including young athletes, parents and grandparents. Founded in 2012, Sports Spotlight is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rush Nigut - President

Rush is a sports enthusiast and former Division III athlete at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. He has been active as a youth baseball and football coach for a decade. Rush believes strongly in the power of sport and the life lessons that are learned from competition. His teams have won championships, finished last and in between. Win or lose, he emphasizes good sportsmanship and positive support for young athletes. Rush is also a noted legal blogger that has been featured in national legal and business publications and is a practicing business lawyer with the Brick Gentry law firm.  He lives with his wife and two sports crazed boys in Des Moines, Iowa.

Tony Atzeni - Programming Director

Graduated from Des Moines East High school in 1974 and after high school served nearly 10 years in the U.S. Army from 1975-1984.  After his time in the service, Tony worked 12 years in the Postal Service as a letter carrier but eventually ended up in what he considered a dream job (not for the money) but for the love of all sports.   Tony began as a play-by-play voice in central and southern Iowa before moving into the studio to co-host of Sports Spotlight productions.

One thing that is a must in all of his show programs is the positive side of the student-athletes, coaches and fans, on or off the field of play.  Tony has always considered himself a fan with a headset, being able to talk about the Iowa high school and college athletics programs and athletes and being able to attend many of the state championship events.

Tony has a daughter (Deana) and son (Michael) and proud to be the grandfather of four girls and two boys.

Catch Tony on Friday nights throughout the year for the best coverage state-wide of Iowa high school sports from 6-midnight (football) or 7-11pm (Winter Sports Season) on the Sports Spotlight Radio and Television Network.  On Saturday mornings listen in from 8-10 year round on the ISS Radio Network.

John Streets - Business Consultant

John is the owner/operator of The Business Playbook, a full service business consulting firm, which handles all of the overall business operations of the company including but not limited to client relations, office management and print, radio, and television production.  He is a graduate of Iowa State University where he received his degree in Sports Management.  He has been involved in sports his whole life either as a player, manager or administrator and enjoys coaching and teaching youth about the positive aspects of being involved in sports.  He currently lives in Grimes with his wife Sandy and their two children Nicholas and Samantha.
